Chickens, plants and some great weather

I am so happy our little coop is almost done. My sweet husband has gone above and beyond to make my dream come true. He has been working steady for 5 weeks now. The girls just love it. They watch him and peep away. He is working on the run right now and they come charging to greet him when they see him coming out there.
I planted a pot of their favorite herbs to snip and add to their breakfast. They get so excited when they see me come out with the oats and snip the herbs. My little galvanized bucket came with a hard to get off label, so I painted it with  Chalkboard paint and now I have any label I want so Chicken poo it is.
The girls love the run, it isn't finished, but is enough to keep them contained.
 Their afternoon snack~

These are a few of what is blooming at the Country Nest. I always love geraniums.
I put this iris in last year. It is a tall bearded iris called" Poem of Ecstasy"
We planted these Rhododendrons almost 12 years ago. They are so pretty and have grown so big we had to move one of them. The funny part is we had just bought them the day I got a call that my Mom had passed away....it is kind of bittersweet how pretty they are.
Love this black petunia. I saw it last year and they were sold out. I was so happy to get one this year.
Now while I was at the farm getting plants I went into the little greenhouse with the fairy stuff....I wasn't going in, but I am glad I did. I found these gems, just what I wanted Araucana  chickens. They were down to their last few so he let me buy just two. I am so happy. So I will show you how they grow. They are about two weeks old now. I am keeping them on my porch right now. Another chapter in our Chicken Chronicles.

Looking forward to Spring

Welcome Spring

A little something fresh for the front door.
We spent the weekend doing garden cleanup. Ouch! I am so sore. I need to move more. I really feel it, but all the flower beds are cleaned and fertilized.

I have had such a hard time because my Bitty was my garden kitty. He followed me around and would roll and play, jump out when I least expected it. It just felt too darn quiet. The wind would blow a leaf and I would turn, looking for my buddy....

Some touches of Spring

This is where you enter my home. The windows change out to screens, but this time of year with the windows still in the porch warms up nicely. ~Then I can leave the kitchen door open~

Here are a couple of projects that I have been working on. This little old table was made by my grandfather. Aren't the square pegs neat? I brought it home from my Mom's about 10yrs. ago. It has been sitting up in the attic of my garage. I love the Reclaim paint I have used before. So I painted it up. The pegs show quite well now that it is painted. The I found this candle holder at Pier 1. Love it outside for summer.

Here is my next little project I have three of these lanterns. The green never really looked well, so I found this multicolor textured paint by Rust-oleum. First I primer them, then I sprayed them with the brown paint.

I love how they came out.

So the gardens are just starting to pop up. It is still early here and the trees have not opened yet, but they are close. Time to bring out the fairy house and get it nestled in.

Time to put the pansys in the window boxes.

I also got a couple of beautiful red geraniums. I always get so anxious for the season to start. Winter felt so long.......

My Garden in the Spring

It has been over a month since I posted and I just don't know where the time has gone. I have been in the garden alot, but have barely touched the vegetable patch. Many of my spring flowers are blooming and I thought I would make a cup of tea and sit down and share them with you.

My sunny south side has mt Miss kim lilac in bloom and it has the sweetest scent. I have my bedroom window open and can smell it upstairs.
I think the colombine look like fairy flowers. I have several different colors scattered around the yard.
The purple iris are in honor of my Nana and my Mom. I always think of them when I see them and I have planted several just for the two women I love so much.

                                                                     A pretty all white colombine.

An all white iris.

The pink clematis loves this spot and has done so well.

Another clematis called Nellie Moser. I cut this one way back last fall so it is low to the ground this year.

My earliest blooming day lily in sunny yellow. I have divided this many times and there are lots of bright yellow spots along my garden path.
This was the tinest shrub when I planted it and now many years later, she is a beauty for sure.

Mother nature has her own ideas where things should grow. I love the lady slippers she put here.

Now for the promise of more to come. My peonies.....

and, darn I forgot the name of this.
So do share with me what is blooming in your garden now?

The First Day of Spring!

~feels like the first day of summer~
In my 39 years of married life, I have never had to put screens back on the windows as early as March! It is almost 80 here today and was as warm yesterday too. After a winter of no snow to speak of and now this! Wow! I have bulbs flowering that usually are not in bloom for another 3 weeks. I hope it stays this way, but oh boy, Mother Nature could still hit us with snow and frosty temps~

But for now it is simply beautiful out. I did some yard cleanup today and this is what greets me when I come in. We went to the Boston Flower Show the other day and I got some wonderful flowers, some for here,

and some for here!
~Happy Spring~

Spring at my back door

I was out shopping yesterday and I saw these sweet Ranunculus. I couldn't resist......
I wanted a bit of color at the backdoor to greet my visitors. It is cold here today and I am so anxious for spring weather~60 degrees please! Not 30 degrees. So yes, I am dreaming of Spring.
