Snowy day tweaking

The weather man said no snow this week....we got 4" day before yesterday and about 3" today. Now it needs to be cleaned up each time because there is ice in spots and under the snow it is dangerous. My family is so snow out :( there is still about 5' on the ground. I am so tired of it all. I stayed in today and did a bit of tweaking. I had a tombstone hanging cabinet that was in my office. When got a new printer /scanner and it took up more space so I took the cabinet off the wall and moved it to the dining room. Then I took the mirror and sign off that wall. (something I have been wanting to do). When I put it together this is what I have.

This was before~ I have wanted this mirror gone, but wasn't sure what I wanted there. I took out some old books and other bits and pieces. I like it much better.

My front hall

As we get yet another late snowstorm I have added a bit of spring for my front hall. I was in Home Goods last week and found this Ralph Lauren distressed dresser. I knew right away it was a piece I could love and where it would go. The antique mirror I have had for years...most of which it has lived in the basement. I have always loved it. I haven't always had a place for it. Until now.

So while I sit at my desk watching the snow come down, I dream of spring.

~Getting ready for Thanksgiving~

When do you start to prepare for the holidays? I usually start washing windows and deep cleaning  in the fall...I just don't know where the time went this year. Last week I took all the screens off and started washing windows. Deep vacuuming and dusting. If I get it all done for Thanksgiving I can pull out my Christmas on Black Friday. While everyone else is shopping I can crank up the Christmas Caroles, pack away Harvest and bring out Christmas. I have made my shopping list and planned the menu. There are a few things I will make ahead. Pulled out the serving pieces.

Invitations have started to arrive, it seems everyone has something planned for the first Saturday in December. I need to pick up some hostess gifts and get the work gifts, you know those early things that sneak up on you.

So I did a bit of tweaking today in my dining room , kitchen. The big table is open to our kitchen and we eat here everyday, but this is it no formal dining room.

This is where we eat most days and where we will celebrate our Thanksgiving.

This table is what I changed out the most. I cleared everything off and brought my saltglaze on over.

I have a wingback I sit in the read and have coffee and this is my view.

Lots more to do, many preparations for a day filled with family, food and laughter. I wanted to sneak in a post first. May you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving~

Finishing up and tweaking~

I have taken the tall skinny cabinet off my porch and replaced it with this. I went looking for a cabinet to put in the upstairs hall. We had central A/C put in our home about a month back and I lost about a third of my already small linen closet. It feels like it is half gone and I had purged may items from the closet as I emptied it...where did all this stuff come from? You know I might need these sheets or how many extra pillowcases do I need? Not to mention those cute bundles of facecloths from Homegoods.......I have way too many facecloths. Some towels left the building and some sheets, but I need to purge a bit more. Anyway the cabinet from the porch traveled upstairs and I bought this new one. I love the red color and it almost matches the color I just painted the doors on the porch.

Now the doors on the porch match the front door I painted last year. See I am trying to finish some projects I started before and never got back to.
Here is where the tall cabinet landed and while I was up there I finished the stencil that I had not finished from the hallway project started in January. This cabinet holds all our cleaners and extra stuff I had no room for in the smaller linen closet. It is just right.
Here is the finished hallway. To see the before click Here and here.

This is where the cabinet started out, before I replace it Here.

I am so in love with this new piece. It is a perfect fit and the height makes viewing my treasures so much easier.

Thanks for joining me on my porch. This is one of my favorite places to be this time of year. So come on by anytime and sit on my porch and have a cupa!
