It didn't snow yesterday~

Yesterday was our Anniversary number 42 we spent the day  together and did a little shopping. The two best things I got was this 1 1/2 gal crock. It is different then any I have.  The other item is this big wood box. Of course because it has our name on it I had to have it.

So I did some tweaking to find a place for the new crock. What do you think of it here? I took the yellow ware out of the cupboard and replaced it with this. I may get rid of my yellow ware. Although I love it, my passion is salt glaze.

Lana's sweet bunnies made an appearance. I packed up my snowmen hoping the snow would leave with them.

So anyway it is snowing AGAIN today. It is pretty, but oh the mess!
I can't even find my stonewalls!! Buried!

Yesterday we had an ice dam up on the upper roof and my kitchen ceiling was spurting water in about four places. Lucky for us hubby heard the drip, drip at about 3:30 in the morning. He had raked the roof and cleared most everything, but the highest hard to reach spot~ Guess what? The water found a way, so we had big buckets until daylight broke and he was up there chipping away. He cleared the dam and water stopped coming in, but my ceilings are ruined. Lots of repair to do. I should be happy if he had not heard it the floors could be ruined too.

This is the most snow we have ever had here and there seems to be no end in sight. I only wonder when it melts where it will go. The ground is frozen.....heaven help us. Between the leaks and the constant snow removal I can't wait for Spring.

What is it like where you are? Starting to feel like Spring yet?

Snowy day tweaking

The weather man said no snow this week....we got 4" day before yesterday and about 3" today. Now it needs to be cleaned up each time because there is ice in spots and under the snow it is dangerous. My family is so snow out :( there is still about 5' on the ground. I am so tired of it all. I stayed in today and did a bit of tweaking. I had a tombstone hanging cabinet that was in my office. When got a new printer /scanner and it took up more space so I took the cabinet off the wall and moved it to the dining room. Then I took the mirror and sign off that wall. (something I have been wanting to do). When I put it together this is what I have.

This was before~ I have wanted this mirror gone, but wasn't sure what I wanted there. I took out some old books and other bits and pieces. I like it much better.

My Potting Shed

I wanted to tell you a bit about my Potting Shed. I have been in search of pictures which I thought I took. I wish I took? We got our little shed to replace a small metal one we had. The old shed served us well but had just gotten ugly and worn out. We started looking around and we found a company we really liked at the Home Show in Boston. Then I saw them at the Garden Show. Finally in 2002 went to Pine Harbor Sheds and ordered our shed. They couldn't deliver until November. Darn it would be too cold to paint. I wanted to play with my shed, It is 10x16. Now I wish it were a bit bigger, but it was bigger than the old one that was like 6x8...who knew? The new shed is post and beam construction. These are some of my earliest pictures I can find...I may be missing the blue green door.

We added lights which we never had in the old one. It is so nice in the fall and winter.

My shed sits sadly abandoned...unless I need bird food (which is daily this time of year)

This is the piece of granite that replaced the builders ramp. I like how this looks much better.
This is my old bench that I hung onto for years until I found the perfect spot for it. Under the old window my son installed for me.

You can see it is a working shed.

This is how my shed looks right now. I am waiting for Spring because I have a few ideas....

Where am I?

They won't let me out...the snow is over my head. Those of you who know me know that I am only 5ft. tall, or short. The snow just keeps on coming...more tonight.

So I have had nice fire going. I have caught up on lots of reading. Done some deep cleaning. I have done some cooking and I have been searching my seed catalogs, dreaming of spring.
Some of my favorite inspiration.  My all time favorite is How Clean Is Your House?

Then as my reward I pull out my seed catalogs!! I am dreaming of Spring, but at this rate we will have snow in June.

Snow storm!

How do you prepare for a snow storm?  I spend the day before cooking, some pork shoulder in the crock pot for shredded barbeque pork sandwiches, gingerbread and chocolate chip cookies. I did run out to the store for fresh rolls and milk. Then I stacked some firewood, filled the bird feeders,  ran some extra water( if the power goes out) and brought up a few candles. Charged everything, camera batteries, cell phones, my kindle and i pad.  So the day of the storm I cuddled up and read in front of the fire.

We got a couple of feet of snow, but the power stayed on. It wasn't so bad. I is actually quite peaceful here. Not much traffic out and about. The side roads are slippery and not cleared like the main roads. The closing on my son's house has to be put off a few days due to weather. All in all it now feels like winter!

A little bit of red

This post is going to be about doilies. My large red one to be exact. Now I know they are not in style, but I do have a nice collection. Some from my grandmother and most from my Mom. The large red she made just for me when I was first married. I had a red and white dining room and this sat on my dark pine table. I remember her working on it. I also remember when it was finished she used liquid starch on it and then she had a special board that she would pin the doily on to stretch it and keep it flat. I also remember she had some with ruffles on the edge and she would form them. They were so pretty. She would set it out in the sunshine to dry.

When I put this on the table I think of my Mother's hands working away on this...I can still picture it. I can still feel the love that went into this piece. So even while it is not primitive it warms my heart to put it on my table. I feel like she is smiling down.

I so wish I had learned how to do the needlework and sewing my Mother could do. I have never been as precise as she was. I truly marvel at how beautiful these pieces are and I remember my Mom and Grandmother, especially my Mom making them. Some things stay with you forever.

Seeing I am on the subject of family I have some happy news. My son and his fiancé have set the date for Sept., 5th 2015! Yes, a wedding!! My son will be closing on his first home at the end of the month and so I will share lots of pictures. It is a sweet Cape built in 1930. Lots of charm. They have work and changes they want to do so I will be sharing that with you too. This is going to be a great year for sure!
